Sistema Ambiente SpA, a company with predominantly public capital, was established by unilateral act of the Municipality of Lucca on 25/11/1999 following the transformation of the special company AMIT pursuant to art.17, paragraph 51 et seq. of Law no. 127/1997.
Sistema Ambiente's activity consists of carrying out Urban Hygiene Services throughout the territory of the Municipality of Lucca (see Waste Regulations); in addition to waste collection, it also deals with street sweeping, disinfection, pest control and rat control.
The company employs about 210 staff and carries out the service with over 150 operational vehicles, with a turnover of about 24 million euros and an annual collection as of 31.12.2022 of about 55,000 tonnes of waste. Sistema Ambiente is among the leading companies in Tuscany in separate waste collection, with a figure of 77% as of 31.12.2022, allowing the Municipality of Lucca to be the capital city with the highest percentage of separate waste collection in Tuscany.
As of 13.01.2017, Sistema Ambiente's share capital increased from 1,935,000.00 euros to 2,487,656.64 euros, and is composed of 482,104 shares with a nominal value of 5.16 euros each.
